Today’s topic is Azoospermia, often encountered during infertility treatments. The initial step involves a semen analysis to assess sperm count. Azoospermia indicates an absence of sperm in the semen, either due to manufacturing issues or blockages in the sperm passage. There are two main types: obstructive and non-obstructive. Non-obstructive Azoospermia results from problems in sperm production, possibly originating from the testis or the pituitary gland’s failure to secrete Follicular Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Luteinizing Hormone (LH). This condition, also known as Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, can lead to decreased testosterone levels and related symptoms.
Conversely, in obstructive Azoospermia, FSH and LH levels remain normal, but issues in the testis prevent proper sperm production. Understanding the anatomy and hormonal mechanisms involved is crucial for comprehending these conditions and their treatment options.
